POSITION: Marketing Coordinator- Strategic Communications and Marketing Department/College Advancement.

STARTING SALARY: Actual starting salary will be commensurate with experience. (Class BC20/Band 05).  Position # 130389

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or a related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience related to the development and dissmination of informational material. 

Additional Preferred Qualifications:  Master's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a related field strongly preferred.  A minimum of three (3) years experience leading, developing, and executing major marketing or communications projects/initiatives to mass audiences in a business, agency, and/or higher education environment.  Experience working directly with the media, managing relationships, developing and pitching stories highly desired.  Demonstrated record of adept and compelling journalistic work.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Thorough understanding of public relations concepts, practices, and principles. Knowledge of contemporary social media, marketing, communications, and public relation trends.   Knowledge of higher education, specifically community/technical college student population.  Strong computer skills, including programs in the MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite as well as ExpressionWeb.   Strong project management skills.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Keen ability as photographer with knowledge & expertise of computer software to enhance & store digital images.  Ability to work independently & coordinate a variety of duties simultaneously.  Ability to write for varied audiences.  Ability to exercise judgement & discretion in interpreting & applying policies & procedures.  Ability to make clear & informative presentations.  Ability to sustain effective working relationships with members of the media.  Ability to work with a diverse team of employees and establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the general public.  Ability to collaborate and produce desired outcomes with an entrepreneurial spirit. Ability to travel the tri- county service area.  Ability to work flexible hours as needed.

 SPECIFIC DUTIES

  

1.    Serves as project manager for a variety of marketing/communications projects as assigned.

2.    Serves as Lead Writer for all College publications and editor of College website. Leads, develops timelines and completes writing projects for marketing publications and the website working with internal and external clients.  Proofreads and fact checks all College brochures, flyers, posters and other publications before printing.  Assist with writing a variety of internal and external communication pieces.

 

3.    Develops story concepts and writes compelling news releases, public service announcements and media advisories to place in local and regional media. Responds promptly and effectively to media requests for interviews, comments/quotes, photos, and research.  Prepares media kits, assists with press conferences, pitches stories, and, when authorized, serves as media spokesperson. Monitors all press coverage; oversees news clippings/archive.

 

   

4.    Contributes to the overall success of the department, division, and College by assisting with events, attending periodic meetings and staff development activities, and performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

5.    Serves as photographer for College publications and Foundation events. Uses software to size and color correct images; organizes photos and writes captions, burns photo CDs and DVDs for filing system and server; maintains College photo archives.  Works with faculty and staff to identify student subjects and conducts photo shoots for marketing publications, student testimonials, billboards, the web, and other promotional media.  Maintains an image library of stock photographs.

 

6.    Serves as contact with representatives of the news media seeking information or referrals; gives timely, accurate and comprehensive responses, following established College and departmental policies and procedures concerning dissemination of public information.  Developes an extensive and reliable network of contacts with local, regional and national media; state and national trade press; and professional colleagues at educational associations and sister institutions.  Performs other duties as assigned.
